American Society of Andrology.

Social Media Guidelines

The American Society of Andrology (ASA) welcomes the use of social media (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, blogs, etc.) at its conferences and at non-conference times. To ensure that the needs of all parties are met, we ask that participants using social media comply with the following policy. The absence or lack of explicit references to a specific social networking/media site does not limit the extent of the application of this policy. There are two types of posting covered by this policy: a) posting as an official spokesperson of the American Society of Andrology, and b) personal postings to social media sites as a member of the ASA or to report observation, discussion or information gleaned from conferences or other ASA activities.

  1. The ASA is committed to respect for the dignity of others and to the civil and thoughtful discussion of new and opposing ideas. If you voice a complaint or disagree with another post, please do so in a polite and constructive manner. When posting material that names the American Society of Andrology or our Twitter handle @AndrologyASA (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), do not post material that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, slanderous, hateful, or embarrassing to any other person. Please know your facts before you post and be accurate. Focus on the American Society of Andrology, and do not post the same material more than once (i.e. spam). Please keep your posts relevant to the society and its members. Do not use postings that mention our society to promote businesses, causes or political candidates.
  2. Official Social Media Postings for the American Society of Andrology
    1. Official postings on social media websites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) about or on behalf of the American Society of Andrology are made only by a person or persons designated by the ASA Executive Council.
    2. The Social Media Committee, a subcommittee under Publications and Communications Committee, will be responsible for establishing and maintaining all social media websites. The chair is appointed by the ASA President and approved by the ASA Council.
    3. Contact the American Society of Andrology at info@andrologysociety.org if you have information about American Society of Andrology activities and events that you would like publicized.
    4. The ASA will review all comments before they are posted, and those that are off-topic or clealry promoting a commercial product or of a non-civil attitude, will not be published.
    5. When using Twitter and Facebook, please use the following ASA handles to help increase our visibility: @AndrologyASA and #AndrologyASA
    6. Video Recording, Audio Recording and Photography. To protect the safety, privacy and intellectual property of our members and third parties participating in society events, no video recording, audio recording or photography of American Society of Andrology meetings or events may be posted on social media sites without the prior permission of the American Society of Andrology. The Archives and History Committee will be responsible for all official ASA photography
  3. Personal Social Media Communication
    1. If you plan to blog from the ASA Annual Meeting, we respectfully ask you to inform us of this prior to the conference. Please contact: info@andrologysociety.org
    2. We ask that all writers attending the Annual Meeting gain approval from a speaker/poster presenter prior to quoting or publishing that individual’s scientific results on the internet or through other forms of media. This policy applies to both professional writers/journalists and to non-journalists blogging about the conference or otherwise sharing information among a group of individuals.
