DOUGLAS-HAMILTON, Diarmaid Noted Local Physicist and Company Founder Diarmaid H. Douglas-Hamilton, inventor, entrepreneur, amateur pilot, mountaineer, and physicist, died Jan.19, at age 82 at his office in Beverly, MA, after a heart attack. He leaves his wife of 40 years, Margaret Spencer Douglas-Hamilton; his stepchildren, Matthias Plum and Arabella Plum and their spouses, Coco Plum and Jeffrey Goldberg; and two grandsons. He is also survived by his younger brother, Iain Douglas-Hamilton and his wife, Oria, of Kenya; and his two nieces, Saba and Mara; as well as a large extended family on three continents. As co-founder, Senior Vice President, and Chief Technology Officer of Hamilton Thorne Inc., in Beverly, he was a loved and respected colleague and innovator. He held 24 patents, many of them with Thomas G. Kenny, for inventions primarily related to laser technology and the animal reproduction industry.
